Street Soccer Texas

News

The NTX Starts just returned home from Washington DC and the Homeless US Cup, where 16 teams of homeless men and women played hard fought games of street soccer for three days.  Our team placed sixth place and our own Kevin Polk was nominated to join the national team, who will leave in
September for the World Cup, held this year in Milan, Italy.

The week was one of competition. learning lessons, getting to know each other, growth, laughter and tears.  All our players, however, came home with a renewed sense of themselves and the life they've been living.

It's easy to fall into a deep rut, living on East Lancaster, but many of our players know, with the support of their team and coaches, they can succeed and they need not be afraid to try to do so.   Our next venture will be be Kansas City, where we will meet five other teams at the Midwest Cup.  That tournament is planned for the fall.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped to make this trip possible for us.

The NTX Stars played the TCU girls soccer team on the TCU field on Wednesday, April 22.    After the girls clobbered our guys in the first game, the guys  were ready to win the second game, which they did, 6 to 4.  The third game, both teams played hard and the game ended with a tied score.  The TCU girls were kind enough to provide drinks and sandwiches for the guys to eat, after the games.

The TCU team, under the direction of head coach, Daniel Abdala, also gave our team TCU T-shirts, soccer socks, umbrellas and goalie shirts!

We are grateful for the time and equipment the  TCU team gave us and look forward to playing again in the very near future!

Saturday, March 7, the "NTX Stars" faced the "Blazers" soccer team from Colleyville, at our practice field, off Lancaster. The first match began at 1:30.  Eight "Stars" players suited up and gave their all, to tie the first two games - 4 to 4, lose the third round 3 to 5 and win the fourth 5 to 3.  Of course, a fifth game had to be played to determine the champion and the "Blazers" left with the title, winning the last game, 6 to 2.

We want to thank the "Blazers" for coming out and sharing a great day with us.  We also want to thank the families of the Colleyville team and all those residents of the Lancaster area, who lent such wonderful support to our players.
