Street Soccer Texas |
Blog It is our desire to make our community and the world understand that all homeless are not drug addicts, alcoholics, felons or lazy. Many on our team are begging for jobs, are struggling with diseases like Bi-polar and ADHD, have never been taught anything more than basic survival, come from foster homes, abusive homes or have lost their parents and have no where else to go. 20% or more of the homeless population in the Near East Side are mentally handicapped/mentally retarded. Many days, we walk the streets to talk to potential participants in our program and see fear in the eyes of a young man or woman who, a month ago, could not have imagined living homeless ,in their worst nightmares. Many struggle with addictions and realize it is those addictions that caused them to lose everything. With the involvement of people in our community, we can eliminate much of the homelessness in our city. BUT - there is much to do!
